2025 International Water Industry Expo, KRW 63.3 Billion in Export Contracts Signed

▷ Exploring export opportunities for domestic water companies to grow into global leaders

The Ministry of Environment (Minister Kim Wansup) and the Korea Water and Wastewater Works Association (Chairman Kang Gi-jung) announced that they achieved export results worth KRW 63.3 billion at the ‘2025 International Water Industry Expo (WATER KOREA)*’ held for three days from March 19 at KINTEX (located in Ilsanseo-gu, Goyang-si).

* As the largest water industry specialized exhibition in Korea, it has been held annually since 2002 to widely promote the excellent products and technologies of Korean water companies and to support their expansion into overseas markets.

This expo saw the participation of 210 domestic water companies, showcasing a variety of water industry technologies and products. Over 17,000 attendees, including government officials, local governments, businesses, international buyers, and academic organizations, visited the exhibition to explore the latest water industry products.

At the exhibition, numerous new technologies in the water sector were showcased, including smart city flood measurement technology integrated with information and communication technology and digital sewer systems, capturing the attention of attendees.

During the two days of the export consultation meeting (March 20-21), a total of 669 consultations were conducted, amounting to KRW 797.2 billion (approximately USD 543.04 million).

The consultation meeting was attended by 79 buyers from 60 companies across 17 countries, including European water industry powerhouses like France and Hungary, as well as emerging water industry nations such as Kazakhstan, Indonesia, Singapore, and Vietnam, conducting export consultations with 143 Korean water companies.

Among them, Kumho E&C and Shinwoo Industrial secured an export contract worth approximately KRW 3 billion (USD 2 million) for the construction of a wastewater treatment facility in Ta Khmau City, Cambodia, thereby obtaining an opportunity for the Korean water industry to enter Cambodia. In addition, 54 memorandum of understanding (MOU) contracts worth about KRW 60.3 billion (USD 41.14 million) were also signed.

In addition, foreign government agencies and organizations, including the Ministry of Energy Transition and Water Transformation, the Hungarian Water Association (HWA) and Water Partnership Nonprofit Ltd., and the Vietnam Water Supply and Sewerage Association, showed great interest in the Korean water industry and its latest technologies.

In particular, on March 20, the second day of the event, the Hungarian Water Association and Water Partnership Nonprofit Ltd. signed an agreement with the Korea Water and Wastewater Works Association at KINTEX to promote mutual cooperation in the water industry between the two countries, thereby paving the way for the Korean water industry to enter Europe.

Kim Hyo-jeong, Director General of Water Use Policy Bureau at the Ministry of Environment, stated, “The International Water Industry Expo is a very important event for promoting Korea’s excellent water industry overseas.” She added, “We will actively support domestic water companies to grow into global leaders.”
